A native of Wyandotte, Mich., Melanie earned her bachelor’s degree in Education from Michigan State University, and her master’s degree in Educational Leadership from Wayne State University.
Having worked at Southgate Adult and Community Education for 21 years, Melanie keeps moving forward with the help of her students and staff. Last year, Melanie’s work was recognized when she received the District Employee of the Year award.
“The alternative and adult education students inspire me to come to work every day. Also, the Asher (Alternative High School) staff is one that is like no other. Working here challenges me to encourage each student to do his/her best to achieve the goals needed to be successful,” she said.
Now serving her fourth year on the MACAE Board, Melanie would like to ensure that MACAE continues to be effective on the State level, while advocating for continued and increased membership to MACAE.
Her overall goal for the MACAE Board is to be unified and effective.
“MACAE advocates for all students, young and old(er), to make sure that the educational process works and gives hope to the many citizens of Michigan that need the encouragement to pursue their high school diploma, GED or employment goals,” she said. |
