Gregg Dionne
Oakland County Community & Adult Education
Hazel Park School District
MACAE Vice President

Jo Anne HattoBorn in Lapeer, Mich., Gregg has spent most of his life in the metro-Detroit Area. He received his bachelor’s degree from Central Michigan University, and master’s degree in education from Baldwin-Wallace College in Ohio. Following a career change in his late twenties that took him from health care to education, Gregg spent some time working as a teacher before getting into community education, where he has been for five years.

“I made the change to education to broaden my career choices,” Gregg said.  “It was instilled in me at a young age by my mother and grandmother that education was paramount, and that had a great impact on my decision to go into the field.”

When asked what inspires him the most about working in community education, Gregg gives credit to his colleagues throughout the state, as well as the students.

“I have never seen such a tremendous dedication to a cause. These people are professional, efficient, motivated, and highly credentialed,” he said. “Aside from the professionals in the field, the success of my students drives me and has made this more of a journey and a mission than just a career or job. Knowing the challenges these students face and the tenacity they show to overcome them, motivates me.”

As a member of the board this year, Gregg would like to focus on being responsive to the needs of members. His overall goal for the board as a group this year would be to create effective relationships with other state organizations, as well as state departments, to ensure that MACAE is able to represent its membership and the students they serve.
