Register Now for MACAE 2010 Legislative Day

Join program directors, teachers, superintendents, students and the like for MACAE’s 2010 Legislative Day and Policy Summit on Education.

The event takes place on March 18 in the Mackinac Room of Lansing’s Anderson House Office Building, from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. (more)

 

Adjudicated Youth

Serving Michigan's Adjudicated Youth

Roughly 15,000 juveniles a year rely on adjudicated youth programs to attain their high school education. Approximately 30 school districts in the state run these programs, while following court orders, to provide education and vocational training for these students. (more)

 

Warren Woods

Close-knit Program Thrives in Warren Woods

Kristen Amato knows the name of every student registered through the Adult & Community Education program at Warren Woods. And as the program director, the feeling of family is something Amato intends to keep around, no matter the program’s future growth.

With 4,000 students in the Warren Woods School District, the Adult & Community Education program boasts an extensive list of services that cater to all age groups. But what stands out the most to students is the environment provided for them. (more)

 

Zeeland Public Schools

Zeeland Extends GED Program to Local Jail

Ray Gustafson’s staff has only a few days each month to instill the value of education at the county jail. The Zeeland GED program at the correctional facility caters to inmates expressing interest in their education or who want to do something more with their time. Still, the Zeeland Adult Education instructors continue striving to bring change to the inmates of the Ottawa County Correctional Facility.

“The purpose of the program is to reduce recidivism. One way you do that is by raising their education level,” said Gustafson, Adult Education director for Zeeland Public Schools. (more)

Crawford AuSable School District

Paul Brunell was raised in Flint and went on to attend Michigan State University. In 1994, he began his community education career at Crawford AuSable School District and has worked in its adult education program until he became the director of the program in 2000. (more)

 
Ruth Kemp
Ruth Kemp
Wayne-Monroe Adult Alternative & Community Education AssociationSouthgate Community Schools

Born and raised in Detroit, Ruth attended undergraduate school at Central Michigan University before transferring to Wayne State University. There she received her bachelor’s degree in Physical Education, with a minor in Social Science. She later returned to Wayne State and earned her master’s degree in Educational Leadership.
